A True Voice
Mixed-media encaustic, 12x12 on 1 1/2 inch wood panel. Available for purchase for $150.

This picture doesn't show the swirling sky and luminescent tree branches very well, but the duo chrome paint shimmers in the light--different colors from different angles. A True Voice was inspired by the lovely forest at my brother's property, where it began as an oil pastel sketch.
“All forests have their own personality. I don't just mean the obvious differences, like how an English woodland is different from a Central American rain forest, or comparing tracts of West Coast redwoods to the saguaro forests of the American Southwest... they each have their own gossip, their own sound, their own rustling whispers and smells. A voice speaks up when you enter their acres that can't be mistaken for one you'd hear anyplace else, a voice true to those particular tress, individual rather than of their species.”
― Charles de Lint, The Onion Girl

I am finished with Grace. Encaustic mixed media with hummingbird painting on 12x12 wood panel. I can't seem to be able to take a picture that captures the reflective bronze metallic background, the texture of the wax (shined), and the oil pastel branches. The colors here are darker than the original. "I do not understand the mystery of grace--only that it meets us where we are and does not leave us where it found us." Anne Lamott. Grace was created as a birthday gift for my friend Christopher and is signed with my inkan from Japan.

Temporal Beauty--Available for Purchase

Temporal Beauty (mixed media encaustic on wood panel) by Elizabeth Anne Rightor.

Temporal: 1) of or pertaining to time. 2) pertaining to or concerned with the present life or this world; worldly: temporal joys. 3) enduring for a time only; temporary; transitory. Beauty: 1) the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest). 2) a beautiful person, especially a woman. 3) a beautiful thing, as a work of art...something that is beautiful in nature ...an individually pleasing or beautiful quality; grace, charm.

The original is available for purchase for $200. I will also be making prints of this one. I will be sharing the full story of Temporal Beauty soon. Enjoy cherry blossoms while they are in bloom :)

Love Song into Harmony, Relationship between the Daffodil and Tulip, Freedom

I had so much fun at an enaustic workshop last Tuesday. I let myself just play. This one is called Love Song into Harmony.

Relationship between the Daffodil and Tulip (close up) mixed media encaustic on 8x10 canvas. This piece has David Richo's five elements of healthy relationships inscribed in duochrome hibiscus paint: Affection, Acknowledgement, Appreciation, Acceptance, and Allowance. It also has five silver crosses (which symbolize relationships) and white tulip petals embedded in the wax. This piece is available for purchase and would be a great gift for a friend or other significant relationship. If interested, please send me a message. Happy Spring.

Freedom (work in progress). I was thinking about getting some new pottery tools for carving into wax and this morning I realized I have a ton of tools for block printing. This is a work in progress and very hard to photograph. The bottom looks like abalone shell.

I think I am done with this one. Beginnings 12x12 encaustic and oil pastels (with some acrylic). Available for purchase. The following words are inscribed in the wax: Hope. Love. Miracles Happen. Believe. Flow. Love is Everywhere. Dreams. Yes. Flow. Gratitude. Wonder. Beauty. Trust. Healing.

Making progress on Reclamation. 12x12 encaustic on wood panel. The colors appear darker than they actually are, but this shows the contrast of textures with wax and picks up some of the iridescent paint.
